The creation of Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) is one of the most exciting and important landmarks in Irish higher education in decades. The new University – formed by a merger of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT) - will be positioned at the convergence of science, technology, engineering, arts and business. TU Dublin will be Ireland’s eighth university, and one of an international family of Technological Universities.

With its student population of over 28,000, the University will be located on campuses spanning three large centres of population in the Greater Dublin Region – Dublin City, Blanchardstown and Tallaght. Offering pathways to graduation from apprenticeship to PhD level, the University will be pedagogically innovative, offering an open, inclusive and digital learning environment; research intensive, focusing on key strategic priority areas; and engaged with its communities through an active programme of innovation, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship.

Subject to the anticipated establishment of TU Dublin in January 2019, on a day to be appointed by order of the Minister for Education and Skills and which order is subject to the approval by resolution of both Houses of the Oireachtas in accordance with the provision of the Technological Universities Act 2018, the applicant institutes merging to form TU Dublin are now seeking to recruit its inaugural President by way of open competition.  The successful candidate shall be designated by the Minister for Education and Skills for appointment as the first President of the new Technological University upon its establishment.

The successful appointee will be an outstanding and authentic leader, with a compelling vision for the future that epitomises the values and culture of the University. S/he will have superb networking and negotiation skills and the passion and personal authority to marshal a large and diverse community of staff, students and external partners around a shared vision for the new university. The President will be the University’s chief officer and accountable person, complying with the Code of Governance for public bodies and reporting to the Governing Body, within the legislative framework of the Technological Universities Act 2018.

Enquiries may be made directly to Rachel Hogan (; +44 207 340 6210) or Dr Sinead Gibney (; +353 1 905 3709).

Applications should consist of a full curriculum vitae detailing academic and professional qualifications and experience, full employment history and relevant achievements. CVs should be accompanied by a covering letter describing briefly how candidates meet the criteria outlined in the person specification, why the appointment is of interest and what they believe they can bring to the role. The closing date for applications will be 0900hrs BST on Friday 19th October 2018.
