The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is one of the UK’s leading medical research charities. We are the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK and one of the biggest in the world.

Our pioneering research transforms the lives of millions of people in the UK and across the world. We will win our fight against heart and circulatory disease by continuing to fund the world’s best research but the outcomes of this research need to be put into practice. Our Healthcare Innovation directorate takes the knowledge gained through our world class research programme, together with the best global evidence, and seeks to ensure that patients benefit from the best care within the shortest possible time – in clinical settings, in the community, and at home.

We are now looking to appoint an inaugural Director of Health Intelligence to join the growing Healthcare Innovation team. The successful candidate will establish an innovative new health intelligence capability that synthesises data and generates insights to help the BHF: prioritise its investments; influence the NHS and government; raise awareness among the public; and grow support for the charity. An integral member of the Healthcare Innovation Directorate Senior Team, s/he will build and lead a highly capable internal team that serves the whole organisation with data-led insight and intelligence. The appointee will report to the Executive Director of Health Innovation and the Medical Director.

The Director of Health Intelligence will have established leadership experience in a similarly complex organisation at scale, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including the NHS, academia and industry. Ideally with a good understanding of cardiovascular disease, policy and practice, s/he must have an analytical mindset, with the capability to cut through quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategic and operational decision-making. The Director must have high levels of digital acuity and experience of working with health-related intelligence. Demonstrable alignment with the BHF’s mission and values will also be essential: we are Brave, Informed, Compassionate, and Driven. The BHF is committed to diversity and inclusion at all levels and in all forms. We wish to encourage applications that will continue to strengthen the diversity in our leadership team.
