Building on the University’s significant strengths in Engineering and Chemistry, the University Executive Board has committed to the ambitious development of a new Department of Chemical Engineering, which will sit within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS). The University is now seeking to appoint an inaugural Head of Department who will provide inspirational and strategic leadership, playing an integral role in further developing an exciting vision for the future of Chemical Engineering at Southampton and which will build on many areas of outstanding strength. The Head will promote excellence and innovation in education and research, and develop strong external partnerships, both nationally and internationally, to ensure that the Department, and wider Faculty, is well-positioned to take advantage of opportunities to enrich its student education and experience and advance research.
The successful candidate will be a highly credible and respected academic with an excellent publication track record, a strong and successful research programme, with evidence of securing significant competitive external research funding from research councils and industry. A record of sustaining an internationally leading and sizable research activity in an area that complements the existing research themes in the wider Faculty is essential. Candidates will bring a good level of leadership experience and commitment to establishing and shaping a new Department. They should enjoy working collaboratively and in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, including with industry and accreditation bodies. The new Head will have the immediate opportunity to appoint a Lecturer, with further investment in staff and infrastructure thereafter, as the educational and research themes evolve.
