The Royal Veterinary College is seeking to appoint a new Head of Department of Clinical Science and Services. The largest of three academic Departments within the College, the Department of Clinical Science and Services (CSS) combines teaching and research programmes with clinical activities, and comprises more than 410 FTE staff, including 90 academic staff, 24 grant-funded research staff and 77 administrative and support staff. The Department is home to the College's small and large animal hospitals, including the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Europe's leading small animal hospital. Sustainable delivery of clinical education, the further development of world-class clinical services and substantial contribution to the science that underpins excellent clinical decision-making are central to the ethos of the Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding and ambitious academic clinician to join a forward-looking Veterinary School, equipped with state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities. The successful candidate will lead all academic and non-academic members of staff within the College's clinical facilities and will contribute to the delivery of the College's mission of excellence in veterinary and para-veterinary education and scholarship. The new Head will contribute to the continuing success of the Department and to further improve the Department's international reputation in biomedical and veterinary research through the provision of outstanding clinical services, clinical education and research.

Candidates must hold a recognised degree in veterinary science and a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an excellent track record of achievement in research and/or clinical service, together with experience of teaching in a relevant context. Alongside effective communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and management experience or potential.
