The Faculty of Applied Sciences is the largest at TU Delft. The Faculty’s mission is to find innovative solutions to some of the substantial problems faced by society with researchers active in the fields of life and health science & technology; bionanoscience; nanoscience & technology; chemical engineering; radiation science & technology; and applied physics.
The Biotechnology Department is one of seven research-focussed departments at the Faculty. The 26 permanent scientific staff aim to contribute to fundamental knowledge and understanding of enzymes, microorganisms and engineering principles and, based on this, to design, build and test new catalysts and processes.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences now seeks to appoint an ambitious new Head of Department of Biotechnology, with a strong strategic vision. She/he will take the lead in optimally aligning and adapting the Department’s activities in research and education to the challenges and opportunities in science, technology and society. Furthermore, the new Head of Department will actively stimulate, initiate and intensify collaboration with the neighbouring Departments of Bionanoscience and Chemical Engineering and with other Departments in- and outside the Delft University of Technology.

Applications will be considered by the selection committee in early January and longlisted candidates will be invited to meet with Perrett Laver in January. Shortlisted candidates will be selected by the committee in mid-February and interviews with the appointment committee will take place thereafter.
