Salary & Benefits: Competitive
Closing Date: 28/01/2019
Formal Interview Date: 26th February and 4th March
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is one of the UK’s leading medical research charities. We are the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK and one of the biggest in the world.
Our pioneering research transforms the lives of millions of people in the UK and across the world. The Medical Directorate of the BHF receives over 600 applications for research funding and funds over £100m in new research grants each year, to further our understanding of, and medical breakthroughs in, heart and circulatory diseases every year. It oversees more than 1000 active research grants, over 30 BHF Professors, six centres of Research Excellence and three centres for Regenerative Medicine. The Medical Directorate is also seeking to expand our portfolio of partnership funding with both national and international partners and to develop new strategic initiatives in data science and clinical research. Many of these activities require substantial interactions with other BHF Directorates. At the same time, there is a need for strategic input and guidance from the Medical Directorate into the work of other Directorates.
The BHF is now seeking to appoint a new Director of Research Relations within the Medical Directorate who will act as the principal internal interface between Medical and all other BHF Directorates. The successful appointee should have direct experience with cardiovascular research (as evidenced by a PhD or relevant clinical qualification), and will have the background, ability and confidence to communicate the scientific and medical activities of the Medical Directorate internally to other parts of the BHF. Reporting to the Medical Director s/he will be a member of the Directorate’s Senior Management Team and will represent the Medical Directorate at the Senior Leadership Group and Operations Board. A key aspect of the role will be liaising with Fundraising to identify and develop funding propositions that both meet the BHF strategic needs but also fit with donor/partner motivations and preferences, and ensuring the impact of BHF-funded research is articulated strongly and appropriately. The post-holder will also be responsible for assessing, monitoring and anticipating requirements for input/support from the Medical Directorate for projects initiated elsewhere in the organisation and prioritising/managing resource deployment for this. The BHF is committed to diversity and inclusion at all levels and in all forms. We wish to encourage applications that will continue to strengthen the diversity in our leadership team.
The deadline for applications is 9am Monday 28th January.
To discuss this opportunity in more detail, our recruitment advisers Perrett Laver would be pleased to hear from you and can be reached on 0207 340 6200.
