The University of Auckland Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau has embarked upon a global search for its next Vice-Chancellor to succeed Professor Stuart McCutcheon who will retire at the end of his third term in December 2019.
The University is Aotearoa New Zealand’s pre-eminent higher education institution. A fully comprehensive public research-intensive university, our commitment to excellence is confirmed by the exceptional quality of students, faculty and staff we are able to attract and is reflected in our international ranking (85th in the QS World University Rankings 2019).
Much of the University’s special standing is conferred by the University’s and nation’s place in the Pacific and by the University’s acknowledgment of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. We are dedicated to critical inquiry and intellectual discourse, to scientific discovery and a sustainable future, to social and cultural development, social justice and equity, and to innovation and wealth creation.
This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the University in its next chapter, to enhance its quest for excellence and to pursue the University’s commitment to social engagement, intellectual rigour and public-spirited action.
The Vice-Chancellor will be a determined and inspirational leader of high intellectual standing who can demonstrate his or her passion for higher education and ability to lead an institution to new levels of achievement. A visionary and strategic leader of the highest calibre, the successful candidate will have the exceptional ability and profile that are demanded for the role of steering a large scale and complex research-intensive university which strives to make a difference to New Zealand and the world.
