Transformative Academic opportunity in General Practice & Rural Medicine

James Cook University (JCU) is Australia’s most successful university in training health professionals to serve communities in regional, rural and remote Australia, and is the first university in Australia to deliver general practice training for doctors specialising as General Practitioners across North Western Queensland. The University is now seeking to attract passionate and qualified individuals to fill the role of Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in General Practice and Rural Medicine.

Why JCU

Consistently ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide, JCU is one of the world’s leading institutions focusing on the tropics and offers a culturally diverse working environment with opportunities for professional and personal growth. JCU prides itself on being dedicated to teaching, learning and research that is not only of high quality, but also delivers practical benefits to the peoples and industries of the region.

An opportunity with impact

You will join a team of experienced GP medical educators and staff who support ‘end to end’ training from medical school through to ACRRM and RACGP fellowship. You will contribute to the continuing success of the innovative geographically distributed model of training, collaborating with colleagues throughout much of Queensland, including some of the most medically underserved communities in the state.

You will bring a track record of effective leadership and a genuine passion for meeting the health needs of diverse communities. As a knowledgeable clinical medical educator coupled with extensive experience of health service delivery, you will be able to shape strategic thinking, communicate with influence, negotiate persuasively and build alliances which support JCU medical students and GP registrars successfully completing their training and pursuing careers that make a difference.
