The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is a professional membership association dedicated to delivering the highest standards of training and education in the medical speciality of obstetrics and gynaecology. With over 16,000 members worldwide, and growing, we work tirelessly to improve women’s healthcare in the UK and internationally by influencing policy makers at the highest levels and partnering with a range of organisations to advance the standard of care delivered to women. We provide professional support to our members, ensuring quality through training, examination, and support of research in obstetrics and gynaecology. In 2019 the RCOG celebrates its 90th anniversary and will relocate from its current Regent’s Park home to London Bridge.

We are seeking to appoint a Chair of the Board of Trustees who will play a significant new role in the leadership of the College, as we continue our plans for growth, advocacy and influence, both in the UK and globally.

The Chair will hold the Board and Executive Team to account for delivering against the College’s mission and vision. They will provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the College and will support and challenge the College leadership to ensure strategic goals are achieved.

The Chair will be an experienced and accomplished leader with a substantial professional profile and experience of governance and leadership (at Chair level), of a high-profile, not-profit organisation. The ability to sustain an effective Board, and to partner with, engage, support and challenge the President and the Chief Executive will be essential. The appointee should have a forward-thinking, innovative and global outlook, in line with the College’s philosophy and must have a passion for women’s health.

The Chair must be able to demonstrate a profound commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, alongside our core principles of opportunity, openness, transparency and respect for others.
