Water For People is seeking an exceptional individual to become the next Chief Development Officer. This role is charged with building a robust, comprehensive and sustainable business development program to match our ambitious goals. Water For People is a global nonprofit working across nine countries to achieve lasting quality water and sanitation services. Sustained access to these services improves health and education and drives economic productivity – especially for women and girls. Water For People empowers local governments, community members, and service providers to invest in the long-term solutions and systems that are right for them. This individual will have the opportunity to create both short and long-term business development strategic plans, drawing from the support of global donors and aiding the organization in its pursuit of growth from $25M to $50M over the next five to seven years. This role will provide strategic support and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team on all business development and marketing matters and to the Regional and Country Directors on business development and communications activities across Water For People’s nine countries. The position will be based in Denver, Colorado and will report into the Chief Executive Officer while providing leadership and oversight to the Business Development and Marketing & Communications teams.

The successful candidate will have a track-record of success within the development function with 12+ years of progressive responsible and relevant experience in fundraising, business development, marketing, communications and/or sales, 5 years of which are in a management capacity, and experience interacting with a Board of Directors. This individual will also have a demonstrated record of securing multi-million dollar grants from foundations and bi-and multi-lateral funders, extensive experience with individual and corporate funders and relatable experience working in international development with a familiarity of the Sustainable Development Goals. This role will be expected to travel domestically up to 25-35% of the time and internationally occasionally to low-income and medium-income countries, where travel is rugged.
