Llandovery College is a co-educational, day and boarding school educating 290 pupils aged 4 to 18. Situated in the ancient market town of Llandovery on the western border of the Brecon Beacons, the College is surrounded by splendid Welsh countryside. Llandovery offers holistic education in an inclusive and nurturing community where first-class pastoral care, commitment to Welsh language and heritage and wide-ranging co-curricular opportunities underpin a supportive and rigorous academic offer.

Following the appointment of Guy Ayling as the next Head Master of Mount Kelly, the Governing Body seeks an outstanding leader to guide Llandovery as it enters the next exciting phase of its evolution. The College has experienced a great deal of positive change under Guy Ayling’s seven-year tenure as Warden. His successor will inherit a school with a strong platform operationally and educationally, with particular strengths in the quality of pastoral care, boarding and sporting provision. The next Warden will grow the pupil roll to 310 with particular focus on the Preparatory School and international boarding. He or she will develop further an already talented and committed staff, grow the Board further and explore exciting strategic and commercial opportunities in China, which are already underway.

The appointee will be a visionary and strategic leader with the warmth, gravitas and people skills to position the College as a leading 21st century independent school. A compelling communicator and outstanding pedagogical leader, he or she will have strong stakeholder management skills, commercial acumen and the strength of character to inspire pupils, staff and the wider community in Llandovery. An understanding of the demands of leadership in a boarding environment, not necessarily gained through direct experience is important, as is a strong resonance with Llandovery’s Christian values and Welsh heritage.

Llandovery College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
