Fettes College, one of the UK’s pre-eminent independent schools, and Bright Scholar, the largest operator of international and bilingual K-12 schools in China, seek an outstanding Deputy Head (Pastoral) to play a key role in establishing and leading Fettes College Guangzhou (FCGZ). Opening in the Zengcheng District of Guangzhou in September 2020, this exciting new venture will bring the Fettes ethos to the Guangzhou area, one of China’s largest and most dynamic cities. FCGZ will be a co-educational boarding and day school with capacity for 2,394 pupils aged 2-18.

Reporting to the Senior Deputy Head, the successful candidate will lead on pastoral matters across the school with a particular focus on the middle and senior schools where students will be predominantly full boarders. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to work with Fettes in establishing a British boarding school ethos in Guangzhou and in setting a new standard in pastoral care in China.

The successful candidate will combine a good track record of success in middle or senior leadership with a clear vision for outstanding pastoral care. He or she will have the organisational and people management skills to build the pastoral leadership team for a new school, and an empathetic understanding of the pastoral and well-being challenges facing young people today. Direct experience of leadership in a boarding environment is highly desirable, and a genuine resonance with holistic education and aims and ethos of FCGZ is essential.
