The University of South Australia (UniSA) is Australia’s University of Enterprise. Our culture of innovation is anchored around global and national links to academic, research and industry partners. Our research is inventive and adventurous, and we create new knowledge that is central to global economic and social prosperity. Today, we are South Australia’s largest university and ranked amongst the very best young universities in the world.
An alliance between UniSA and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is co-located with other cancer-focused researchers within a brand new purpose-built building named the UniSA Cancer Research Institute. The CCB boasts a large concentration of cancer research and is recognised within the University’s broader research concentration strategy, Scale and Focus, as a hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.
Core to this role is the leadership of the CCB alliance, in particular sustaining an environment that nurtures effective collaborations, promoting a culture that delivers research excellence and impacts on future cancer therapies by translating breakthrough discoveries into new ways to prevent and treat the disease. Building on an already impressive track record, the Executive Director will be responsible for the leadership, success and ongoing strategic development and growth of the CCB, and will develop and foster a dynamic research environment to align the CCB activity with the strategic direction and research themes of the University, involving active collaboration with partners locally, nationally and internationally.
This is a critical role for the University and one that is central to a number of initiatives for future growth and investment across the institution. The successful candidate will therefore bring experience in high-level strategic leadership and the ability to foster research innovation in a complex environment. An individual with a distinguished research profile, preferably in a discipline area that complements the research strengths and direction of the CCB, will find the role an opportunity to advance and enhance an established research agenda and position the CCB and the University for the decades ahead.
