The University is now looking to appoint a dedicated individual with a global outlook to lead the University’s internationalisation agenda in the role of head of the International Office. The successful candidate will need to be a diplomatic and energetic leader, with the drive to promote the viability and reputation of the University internationally. Reporting to the rectorate, the appointee will be joining a dynamic internationalisation team and be expected to influence and contribute at a strategic and institutional level.

Internationalization is a key strategic priority of the University of Vienna. The head of the International Office plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the University’s internationalization agenda. It is expected that s/he will support the Vice Rector for Research and Internationalisation in the implementation of the University’s international strategy to achieve its strategic objectives.

The institution is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to take over from the previous head to continue the significant efforts made in helping the university progress its international reputation. The post holder will be responsible for oversight of overall international activity and ensuring all initiatives undertaken within the University are further developing its external reputation and global footprint. Reporting to the rectorate, the head’s key duties and responsibilities include managing worldwide institutional partnerships, promoting student mobility and advancing the University’s international visibility.

The head of the International Office leads a dedicated team of 26 colleagues, with three direct reports, divided into three sections: International Cooperation and Higher Education Projects, Student Mobility, and Administration and International Communication. Daily activities will be largely divided across: strategy development, management and coordination of International Office activities, development of institutional relationships, and handling of possible interface topics and complaints. The head of the International Office will be appointed by the University Selection Committee. An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver, to assist the University of Vienna in the assessment of candidates against the requirements for the role and to identify the widest possible field of qualified candidates.

The process will conclude with formal interviews with the University towards the end of April/beginning of May.
