We are the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. We use a human rights framework to advance new frontiers in Economic, Social and Cultural rights.
Since 2011, GI-ESCR has been involved in ground-breaking work that has resulted in key policy decisions, judicial decisions and effective implementation of ESC rights at the national and international levels. Working closely with partners, GI-ESCR has achieved pronouncements on the protections for women’s rights to land and productive resources, and their implementation. On extraterritorial dimensions of ESC rights, and effectively raised awareness and strengthen standards around extraterritorial obligations (ETOs). It has played a bridging role to ensure that human rights advocates have the opportunity and capacity to engage and leverage international human rights spaces with the experiences of rights holders on the ground. We use strategic partnerships, legal advocacy and human rights mechanisms to advance human rights norms in ways that reflect the experiences of communities at the international level.
We are seeking an expert, passionate and committed leader to take GI-ESCR to its next level of development by raising the profile of the organization (being a public face of the organization), as well as attending to key organisational development issues (regularising registration and employment status, building out organisational and financial/accounting systems, and increasing diversity of funding). The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the organisation to deliver its vision and strategy and ensuring the long-term success and health of the organisation.
GI-ESCR advances the realization of ESC rights throughout the world by tackling the endemic problem of global poverty and social injustice through a human rights framework. If you want to join us in driving forward our cross-cutting and impactful work then we look forward to hearing from you.
