The Fellows of the College invite applications from outstanding candidates to succeed Professor Sir Christopher Dobson as Master for 10 years from 1st October 2020. Founded in 1511 by Lady Margaret Beaufort, St John’s College is one of the largest colleges in the University of Cambridge, counting Nobel prize winners, Prime Ministers, scientists, artists, and leaders in business, public service and industry amongst its alumni. With over 150 Fellows covering the complete range of disciplines, a diverse student body of undergraduate and graduate students from across the world, and a focus on widening participation, the College is committed to the advancement of education, religion, learning and research.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the warmth and diplomatic skills required to engage and inspire the College community, working closely with Fellows, College Officers, staff, research associates, students and alumni to pursue academic excellence within a community that values equality and diversity, and to sustain and develop a welcoming, inclusive, supportive and ambitious academic community.

The successful candidate will be elected on merit irrespective of gender, background, religious beliefs or personal circumstances.
