Thank you for your interest in joining the University of Gloucestershire as Head of School of Education and Humanities.
This is a critical role for the University of Gloucestershire. The University’s original foundation goes back to the creation of the Cheltenham Training College in 1847, and teacher education has been core to our mission ever since. Our School of Education is rated Ofsted Outstanding for both primary and secondary phases. We are proud of the School’s long and distinguished record of achievement in its discipline. We have an extensive network of school partners across the county and beyond, which is part of our role as an anchor institution serving our community.
We are looking to recruit a Head of School who can build on this record of success, leading, managing and supporting colleagues to further achievement in today’s competitive and challenging environment for universities.
We are merging the current School of Education with the Humanities subject community. The new Head of School will have the opportunity to explore and exploit the synergies between these areas, developing new curricula and new pedagogy throughout the new School and the wider University. This is an excellent career opportunity to be in at the beginning of creating something new that builds on the strengths and traditions of both discipline areas.
The Head of School has a lead role in sustaining and extending our rich network of relationships with headteachers and school colleagues across the region. It is a high profile role, championing the University and building beneficial partnerships.
The Head of School will be a member of the University’s Academic Leadership Group, which brings together the University Executive with all Heads of School, meeting regularly to provide academic leadership for the University. As such you will play a significant part in the senior decision making of the University.
At the University of Gloucestershire, we are dedicated to the wellbeing of our students and our community. We aspire to enable every student to achieve their full potential, through outstanding support for their learning and giving them a broad and rich experience, which prepares them well for rewarding lives and successful careers.
We pride ourselves on being an academic community which values positive human relationships, promoting belonging, and supporting individuals to flourish. In challenging times for the university sector, we continue to thrive, achieving real progress and success in student satisfaction, graduate employment and community impact.
If you are interested in developing your career at a forward-thinking, ambitious university with a real commitment to our students and our community, we look forward to hearing from you.
