Flanders Make is the strategic research centre for the manufacturing industry. From their sites all over Flanders, they stimulate open innovation through excellent research. Their goal is to contribute to the technological development of the vehicles, machines and factories of the future. By doing so, Flanders Make creates added value for the manufacturing industry. Together they help companies innovate better and faster. In addition, they attach great importance to international cooperation in the field of innovation and to participation in European research projects.

As they bring together companies and research institutions, Flanders Make help realize concrete product and production innovations in the vehicle industry, in machine builders and in production environments. Their expertise is focused around four key competences: Motion Products; Decision and Control; Design and Optimization; and Flexible Assembly. These competences have been translated into clusters in which companies, other research institutions, and knowledge centres work together. Core labs are assigned to each of these competence clusters and are responsible for the concrete research projects.

Cluster Manager, Motion Products

Flanders Make now seeks to appoint a Cluster Manager in the Motion Products competency area. The Cluster manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the cluster and will translate this into research roadmaps and a balanced research portfolio which combines the technological trends in Motion Products and the needs of the leading companies in Flanders. Working closely with the other three Cluster Managers, COO, CTO and CVO, the successful appointee will inspire and lead managers of R&D teams at the universities and Flanders Make vzw, while developing a close relationship with a consortium of companies.

The Cluster Manager will lead by influence to drive and accelerate the innovation in the Industry in Flanders, to have impact on science and technology, and to create leverage and synergy in Flanders Make and beyond.

The preferred and ideal candidate

  • has insights in the trends and deep understanding of the technology of Motion Products and experience in research and innovation management;
  • can create collective ambition in a complex stakeholder landscape. This means leading and inspiring by influencing and ensuring that things get done from strategy to project execution;
  • enjoys being a central figure head in a large network of contacts amongst industry partners, universities and governmental representatives
  • can build sustainable relationships and is the spokesman for R&D managers at companies;
  • believes in the values of Flanders Make and acts upon them;
  • shows affinity with the no-nonsense culture where opportunities and value creation are the main drivers.
