Ampleforth College has educated and provided a compass for life to generations of young people since 1802. Situated on a breathtaking 2,000-acre site in North Yorkshire, it educates boys and girls aged 13 to 18 to the best of their ability within a community of faith and scholarship.  Year 7 and 8 students are currently located at St Martin’s Ampleforth, the feeder prep school in the adjacent village; there are plans in train to consolidate the two schools and move these students to the Ampleforth College site into a new junior house.

Ampleforth is now embarking on a period of significant further development. Working with a new Chair and a well-qualified, expanding Board, the next lay Head of Ampleforth will build on the School’s reputation as a leading school for faith formation, boarding excellence and holistic education. He or she should be an outstanding ambassador for the School, ensuring that Ampleforth can seize the opportunities presented by the rapidly changing educational landscape.

The successful candidate should be a Roman Catholic and a visionary leader, with first-class strategic skills and a substantial track record of senior leadership gained as a Head or Senior Deputy Head. He or she will inspire a growing senior leadership team and engage the entire community in continued positive change and development. A strong resonance with Ampleforth’s Catholic and Benedictine values of compassion, inclusion and generosity is essential.

Ampleforth College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.
