The University is now seeking an exceptional individual for the role of Academic Secretary. The Academic Secretary is head of the University’s Academic Division, and, together with the Registrary, is one of two administrative officers with broad responsibility for the University’s activities. The Academic Secretary supports the Registrary, the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellors and the Heads of School in the development and implementation of the University’s academic strategy. This role is a key conduit for communication and information, ensuring consistency of messages and processes across the six Schools, and between the Schools and the operational functions of the University. The roleholder will be integral in ensuring connectivity and cohesion across the academic and operational bodies of the institution. The Academic Secretary will promote continuous improvement and agility in the service delivery of the University of Cambridge to help to ensure that the University remains at the forefront of academic excellence.

The successful candidate will have senior management experience working in a complex, distributed organisation where authority is derived through persuasion and influence. The roleholder will be able to provide effective leadership to and management of high performing professional services colleagues, as well as being able to establish strong credibility with academic colleagues. The role of Academic Secretary calls for an exceptionally high level of personal integrity and a positive, pragmatic and collaborative approach focussed on delivery.
