Formal Interview Date: Monday 3 February 2020

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is the UK’s largest urban health foundation. For over 500 years we’ve been based in and focused on improving people’s health in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark — two vibrant inner-city areas with some of the UK’s highest health inequalities. Our work has both a local impact, and deep relevance for others facing similar challenges in cities around the world.

Over the next decade we plan to put around £250 million into improving health and healthcare in our local communities. We take a systems approach, focusing on a small number of complex urban health issues, and working to tackle them through long-term programmes of work. Our current programmes are focused on reducing childhood obesity, tackling air pollution, and slowing people’s progression to multiple long-term conditions.

The Charity is seeking its first Evidence and Impact Director. This is a senior role, reporting to the CEO, with responsibility for leading the Charity’s ambitions on evaluation and impact. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of a range of research and evaluation methods, as well as how data and learning can be utilised to inform both our work and those we seek to influence. This calls for a strategic thinker who is inquisitive, creative and credible.

As Evidence and Impact Director, you will be at the cutting-edge of systems work — not just in the UK, but globally. You will ensure that rigorous evidence is systematically used to drive impact for our local communities, and synthesised to advance the field of urban health. You will lead mission-critical planning, research, and evaluation-related activities across the Charity. You will also provide expertise, set standards and guide colleagues and external evaluation teams on the design and development of measures, metrics and data systems.

This is a role for a leader and a pragmatist – with a vision for how evidence can drive decisions, practice and impact in a fast-paced, evidence-based and applied environment.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity believe that building different perspectives into our multidisciplinary team will both inform and enhance our work. This means we’re open to applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experience.

Location: London

Salary: circa £75,000 p.a.
