As Strategic Head of IT Affairs at the University of Duisburg-Essen, you will be responsible for the strategic development of the entire Information, Communication and Media division (IKM) of the University of Duisburg-Essen. You will also chair the Board of the Information, Communication and Media division and manage the work of the institutions at the University of Duisburg-Essen concerned with information and communication. In addition, you will head the Centre for Information and Media Services and will be the functional manager of all employees working in this centre. You will report directly to the Rektorat. 

Your main duties:

  • Overall responsibility for the IT infrastructure
  • Supporting the IT development of all administrative processes at the University of Duisburg-Essen
  • Promotion of digitalisation at the University and strategic management of the IT division
  • Conceptual development and representation of the IT strategy of the University of Duisburg-Essen
  • Coordination of the faculties’ IT requirements, with particular consideration of the needs of research and teaching and all IT security-related aspects
  • Active involvement in the digitalisation plans for teaching and research
  • Initiation and organisation of pilot projects, including third-party funded projects
  • Participation of the University of Duisburg-Essen in the relevant political initiatives at regional, national and international levels
  • Strategic and operational management of the Centre for Information and Media Services (ZIM) with over 90 employees

Your profile:

  • Completed academic university studies
  • Several years’ experience in IT
  • Practical experience of administration in academia or in a managerial role in the private sector
  • High degree of managerial competence and motivation
  • Track record of experience in managing large IT projects and in-depth knowledge of the relevant project management methods and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of the requirements for a modern university IT system
  • Highly skilled in consultancy with an ability to tailor communication to a target group
  • Authority and persuasiveness in order to act as a broker between different parties
  • Fluent in German and English
  • Experience of third-party funding (procurement and implementation) is desirable
  • Doctorate is desirable, but not essential
