Bedford Girls’ School is a thriving and forward-looking independent day school for girls aged 7-18.  Part of the Harpur Trust, one of the UK’s largest charities, the School is committed to an education, which focuses on developing within our students the skills and attributes that they will need to embrace the challenges and opportunities of a volatile world with confidence.  We aspire for our students to make changes to the world around them.

Jo MacKenzie will retire after ten years of exceptional service, and we now seek an outstanding educationalist to lead BGS through the next stage in its evolution.  This is an exciting opportunity to lead an exceptional school, inspiring a talented and modern community to achieve even greater success.

Our new Head will offer a record of successful strategic leadership experience, gained as a Head or Deputy Head, and preferably in a range of settings.  The appointee needs to be passionate about the educational benefits of single sex education and have the personal impact to be a compelling ambassador for girls’ education not just within BGS and the Harpur Trust but also within the local community and nationally, by bringing excellent leadership and communication skills.  The new Head will share BGS’s IB-focused philosophy of education (we are an IB Primary Years Programme candidacy school, and offers both the IB Diploma and A levels in Sixth Form) and commitment to the role of digital technology in the classroom.  A proactive willingness to embrace the many benefits of being part of the Harpur Trust and a commitment to access, diversity and innovation is essential.

Applications should comprise the application form, full curriculum vitae and a covering letter addressing the criteria presented in the role description and person specification.  Completed applications should be uploaded at quoting reference 4369.  The deadline for applications is 09:00 GMT on 22nd November 2019.

The shortlist will be determined on 25th November 2019.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit Bedford Girls’ School informally and have a first interview during the week commencing 25th November.  Those selected for final interview will be invited to come back to the School on 2nd & 3rd December 2019.
