The Mauritshuis is home to an internationally-renowned and major collection of paintings by seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish masters, including Vermeer, Rembrandt and Rubens. Located in The Hague and incorporating the Prince William V Gallery, the Mauritshuis is one of the most important museums in the Netherlands and a unique global centre of excellence. The Mauritshuis’ iconic collection is at the heart of all of its activities; from exhibitions and educational programmes to research and publications.

As the museum approaches its 200th anniversary in 2022, the Mauritshuis can celebrate a period of significant development. Since the redevelopment of its building in 2014, attendance has doubled, staff size has grown, digital initiatives have been put in place, and branding and positioning have been sharpened. Within this vibrant context, the museum has bold ambitions to deliver innovative approaches that connect the past with the present and to engage broad and diverse audiences through stories that are relevant for the 21st century, on-site and digitally.

The Supervisory Board of the Mauritshuis seeks to appoint a Director as the public face and champion of the museum to deliver these aims, realising the organisation’s strategy 2021-2024. The Director will be a pioneering, inspiring, inclusive and creative leader, with a track record of successful organisational management. Committed to delivering excellence and driving innovation, s/he will have a deep knowledge of seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish painting. In addition, the Director’s relevant external networks will ensure that the Mauritshuis remains responsive, inclusive and open to new developments in our global society.
