The Blavatnik School of Government’s mission is to inspire and support better government and public policy around the world. As one of the University of Oxford’s newest and most vibrant departments, we seek to educate a new kind of public leadership, research real-world policy challenges and shape cooperative solutions in an increasingly polarised world. We combine the academic rigour of the top-ranked university in the world with an applied, real-world focus. Our research is proudly independent, academically rigorous and directly relevant to public policy and the challenges faced by governments. We work constantly with governments and practitioners to identify pressing issues and develop practical solutions.

The work of the School is possible thanks to the support of a range of donors and funders, including our founding donor, Sir Leonard Blavatnik. We are proud that up to 85% of students receive financial assistance. We now seek to appoint a new Director of Development to help us increase philanthropy and diversify income, both in anticipation of our 10th anniversary and for the longer-term. This leadership role will help grow the development function and further embed philanthropy into the wider School community. Working closely with the Dean, Professor Ngaire Woods, senior academic leaders, the International Advisory Board and other stakeholders, the Director of Development will provide strategic direction and leadership of the School’s development and donor engagement activities.

You will be passionate about the School’s mission, its current and potential impact, and will be able to articulate this in compelling ways that excite potential donors. You will bring a successful track record of creating and sustaining effective, long-term, high-value relationships together with leadership skills and credibility with the School’s academic and donor communities. You will hold an undergraduate degree from a research-intensive university, and have the ambition to build effective fundraising success for a rapidly growing and high-profile global institution.  The School is open to candidates who bring transferable or equivalent skills and experience.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver who will support the Blavatnik School of Government in identifying the widest possible field of qualified candidates and assist in their assessment against the requirements for the role.
