AQA

Appointment of a Chief Executive

AQA is an independent education charity and the UK’s largest provider of academic qualifications taught in schools and colleges. These qualifications include GCSEs, AS and A-levels, the Extended Project Qualification, Tech-levels and Technical Awards. We also offer a range of international qualifications through our joint venture with Oxford University Press, Oxford International AQA Examinations.

Our purpose is to advance education by enabling students and teachers to realise their potential. Everything we do is with our students’ best interest at heart. We are proud to provide high quality assessments that are fair, reliable, and support students on their educational journey and that the content of our qualifications support great teaching.

As an independent education charity, our income is reinvested back into the education system.

We have great people at AQA who are passionate about what we do and are committed to our purpose. They have deep expertise in assessment, curriculum and exam delivery which they share to support teachers, inform policymakers and support students. It is our people, our values and our behaviours that make the organisation what it is, a great place to work.

We are looking for a new CEO, who shares our passion for quality, equality and doing the right thing by our students.  They will lead and implement our strategic plan, seeing major projects through to completion, whilst taking the organisation through significant culture change. They will also lead and develop a new plan for our £200m organisation that seizes the opportunities and anticipates the future challenges of our education system.

Our new CEO will be an experienced organisational leader with a record of success in managing people, risk and operational complexity. He or she will be excited about the future of assessment and curious about the developing market, blending resilience and decisiveness with low-ego leadership to work effectively with a talented Executive and high-level board. He or she will be adept at communicating vision to the whole organisation by connecting with the workforce and inspiring colleagues. The ability to be the voice and face of AQA, develop people in their roles and work well with regulators is essential, as is the commercial and charitable understanding to run our £200 million charity as a business. Prior experience of the education sector is not essential.
