Worcester College has a long and rich history. Today it is one of the 39 colleges that make up the University of Oxford. Twenty-first-century Worcester is a community – of undergraduate and graduate students, staff, fellows and lecturers engaged in teaching and research – committed to freedom of thought and expression, academic integrity, and a constant openness to difference and challenge. Worcester has over 9,000 alumni globally and continues to benefit from the generosity and loyalty of a diverse community of donors.

In 2014, the College launched the Tercentenary Campaign to raise £100m over ten years. Thanks to a number of major donors, this goal was successfully achieved in 2019, five years ahead of target. Fundraising continues to be of paramount importance and Worcester College is in the process of reshaping its fundraising strategy and re-examining the College’s priorities.

Worcester is now seeking a new Development Director to lead the development function through this exciting period of challenge and opportunity. The Development Director is a Fellow and Trustee of the College, and a Member of the College’s Governing Body. Working closely with the Provost, the Development Director manages all aspects of fundraising and alumni relations; including major prospects and donors, targets, reciprocation, events and communications. The Development Director sits on several other core College committees and is one of the key senior officers of the College.

The new Development Director will be responsible for building relations with major donors, and for implementing and refining the new phase of the College’s fundraising strategy. Leading a small and dynamic team, the Development Director will be essential in shaping the future of Worcester College. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising leadership and will have significant experience in securing major philanthropic gifts. They will be an excellent communicator who is committed to the College’s goals and ethos, and able to articulate its vision in a compelling manner. They are likely to have held senior fundraising roles in the higher education, cultural or not-for-profit sector, and will be comfortable at working across the collegiate structure of the University of Oxford.
