Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is a research-intensive university that prides itself on promoting research and education with a clear societal relevance. Based in the dynamic and diverse city of Rotterdam, EUR positions itself as an international knowledge hub for critical thinking and academic training, driven by a strong focus on current societal issues. On the lively, modern campus and four other locations in Rotterdam and the Hague, a very international student body of more than 31,000 students is constantly encouraged to develop their talents and pursue their ambitions.

Erasmus School of Economics is an internationally renowned institute that contributes scientific knowledge to future economic issues and aims to answer current relevant issues of concern to government and firms. The School consistently ranks in the global top-50 in Economics and Econometrics in the QS Rankings and in the top-75 in the Times Higher Education global rankings. With over 6500 students and 290 scholars based across four Departments, Erasmus School of Economics strives to become the best in its disciplines (economics, econometrics) and seeks to achieve excellence both in its research and teaching. The School collaborates with international scientific partners, and it has local footings in business issues relevant to the unique position that the city of Rotterdam has as a hub of transport and industry.

Erasmus School of Economics now seeks to appoint a new Dean. With a proven successful track record as a senior leader and manager and a reputation for excellence in research and teaching in a field relevant to the School, the successful appointee will have ultimate responsibility for the School’s teaching and research activities as well as for its operational management. The Dean’s responsibility stretches beyond the School: Together with the deans from the six other faculties and two institutes, united in the College of Deans, he/she contributes to and supports interfaculty cooperation as well as the further development of the university as an organisation.

S/he will be a well-regarded figure in the scientific community, with the ability to articulate a compelling vision for the School that will further strengthen beneficial partnership across the academic, public and private sectors. Reporting directly to the Executive Board of EUR, s/he will have the experience and drive to support the School in its ambition of further strengthening its already world-leading education and research activities in its areas of expertise.

The term of a Dean appointment is four years and can be renewed once. The appointment is associated with a tenured Full Professor appointment in one of the Departments at the School. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and also comes with additional specific and attractive secondary terms of employment.
