The University of Kent is undergoing a period of change to raise its profile and deliver an ambitious Kent 2025 strategy. We are building on our world-class teaching and research reputation to become a leading civic university, supported by progressive programmes that place us at the heart of public and intellectual life.

We want to be a community that empowers students from a wide range of backgrounds to find and shape their place in the world, and where academics are free to explore and deepen our understanding of it. We want staff to feel part of a common identity that celebrates and enhances their work.

Canterbury, our historic base, has been a hub of learning for centuries, while we are also at the heart of Medway’s bid for City of Culture 2025. We are proudly international in outlook, with a distinct European identity through our centres in Athens, Brussels, Paris and Rome, and partnerships with 400 universities worldwide.

Our 20,000 students are diverse, passionate and independent. Our inspirational teachers have a Gold rating from the UK Government, the highest available, supported by Times Higher Award-winning staff that make sure everyone can achieve their potential. We are home to some of the world’s most influential thinkers.

We are now determined to build on this to meet local, national and international needs, with our strategy including a new Kent and Medway Medical School and an Institute for Cultural and Creative Industries. In response to wider sector challenges, we are reshaping our senior leadership team to embrace flexibility and growth. As a part of this, we are now seeking to appoint a Director of Governance and Assurance.

A new role, this is an exciting opportunity to work across the central University to create and deliver an all-encompassing governance strategy for the University, providing visionary leadership to your Directorate and support to University Council that enables the University to continue as a leading civic institution.

You will play a significant role in developing teams and strategies that support the University’s future ambitions and engage with our longstanding commitment to ethics and equality. With excellent opportunities to influence the way in which the Institutional Plan adapts to the wider higher education landscape, you will also work alongside  Council and the Executive Group to support their governance and conduct.
