The Role and Profile

TNO is now seeking to appoint a Senior Scientist to lead the Maritime & Offshore Structures Programme. The Buildings, Infrastructure & Maritime group supports industry and government to realise reliable, efficient and sustainable solutions in the building, civil infrastructure and maritime and offshore sectors. The Senior Scientist will sit within the Structural Dynamics (SD) Department of the BI&M unit.  SD’s researchers focus on the mechanical behaviour of structures when subjected to extreme conditions, such as collision impacts, aging by fatigue or corrosion and cryogenic conditions, for metals and composite materials. The combination of advanced computations and experimental validation result in product improvement and safe operations at all conditions.

The Senior Scientist plays a strong role in driving the direction and strategic technical priorities for TNO Structural Dynamics in its leading role. Having a strong understanding of emerging technologies and market-driven questions, s/he will be a key contact for clients and partners, acting as the technical sparring partner for these stakeholders. With a strong network and standing in the (inter)national arena, the Senior Scientist will be engaged in developing new projects and programs that bolster competitiveness and improve sustainability for Dutch and European industry and governments.  

The Senior Scientist links the latest technological developments to the challenges faced by the (international) maritime and offshore industry as part of the acquisition of new projects. S/he acts as a source of expertise, and has practical technical expertise, a strong scientific profile as well as business acumen and relevant networks to oversee the development of new technologies and applications.

S/he has a pioneering mentality, and the ability to connect technology with market- and socially-driven challenges to develop and drive an ambitious vision that puts TNO further on the map. With strong communication and listening skills, customer focus and leadership skills the Senior Scientist is able to convince and inspire colleagues, partners and clients.

The Senior Scientist position is a full-time position, based in Delft, the Netherlands, offering flexible working hours.
