We’re looking for an ambitious and forward-thinking individual to join our Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) to help us deliver on our dual mission; giving the advice people need to solve the problems they face and advocating to address their underlying causes.

Citizens Advice is one of the largest UK-based charities with a remit covering advice services across England and Wales. Every year millions of people come to us for advice and help in solving their problems delivered by 850 national and 6,300 local staff and 21,000 volunteers. Together we provide advice and guidance on a range of topics including money and debt, consumer issues, benefits, housing and employment. We also support witnesses attending court through the Witness Service and we are the consumer champion for the energy market and the statutory consumer watchdog for the postal service. Our network of over 270 local Citizens Advice charities means we have the insight and flexibility to adapt and respond to local needs with approximately 2,550 locations across England and Wales as well as a significant digital offer.

The ARC is responsible for advising the Trustee Board of Citizens Advice on effective controls and a risk management framework for all activities of the organisation.

The Committee is seeking to appoint an external, independent Member who is familiar with a risk-based approach to management within a large-scale charitable or public service delivery organisation or agency. Candidates must be able to articulate an understanding of the role of a non-executive and demonstrate ability to work effectively, objectively and sensitively with others at a strategic level. They must also be willing to challenge constructively and work within the aims and principles of Citizens Advice. Experience in large scale digital delivery and transformation would also be desirable.

Citizens Advice is committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles, and we encourage candidates who can help us to ensure diverse representation on our Committee.

If you have the personal qualities and enthusiasm to drive change across the Citizens Advice service and you embody our inventive, responsible and generous values, we would love to hear from you.

Please visit quoting reference 4332 to apply or obtain further information on the required qualifications, skills and experience for this exciting opportunity.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 6th February 2020.

The post is unremunerated but very rewarding, and appropriate expenses are reimbursed.

There are four Audit and Risk Committee meetings each year, each taking approximately four hours in London. Other activity is ad hoc, by telephone or email.
