We are looking to recruit a Head for the School of Arts. The School was formed in 2016, bringing together three former departments: the School of English, the School of Modern Languages, and the Department of History of Art & Film. The School is one of the largest composite departments in the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities and spans ten distinct and vibrant subject areas in the School: Creative Writing, English Language, English Literature, Film Studies, French and Francophone Studies, History of Art, Italian Studies, Applied Linguistics, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and Translation Studies. As a senior member of the University, you will advance the University’s profile in world-class research, enterprise and teaching excellence in an increasingly competitive environment both nationally and internationally. Heads of School are academic leaders in their disciplines and work with their Head of College and other members of the College Leadership Team to deliver University strategic objectives. Headship offers the opportunity to play a transformative role in the future direction of your discipline and the school, college and university as well as furthering your leadership skills.
Working closely with the PVC and Head of College for Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, you will represent and promote the School, College and University to enable the right environment for us to be at the forefront of global leading research and innovative enterprise whilst attracting students and providing them with an excellent student experience.
Applications are invited for appointment to commence as soon as possible. The appointment as Head of School will be made for an initial four-year term, which can be extended with mutual agreement, however appointment to the University will be on an open ended basis.
