We are an ambitious, discovery-led institution, with a global outlook and a vibrant international community of students and staff, world-renowned for its research. This is recognised in that Leicester is ranked as a top 25 UK University in all international league tables. With the appointment of our new Vice-Chancellor Professor Nishan Canagarajah, this is an exciting time to join our historical University. We are committed to the belief that a university should empower, inspire and innovate, and our outstanding staff are making a difference not just to our local community, but across the world. If you choose to join us at Leicester, you will be joining one of the most diverse universities in one of the most diverse cities in the United Kingdom.

We are looking to recruit a Head for the School of Education. The School of Education at the University of Leicester has a long-standing reputation for teaching, research and professional development. Formed in 1962, our many years of experience have allowed us to develop effective programmes and training provision, designed to meet our students' needs, as acknowledged by our former students, our partner schools and Ofsted inspectors. The vision for the School of Education is in the process of being revised under the University’s new leadership team and the new Head of School will be expected to develop the School’s partnerships and their impacts, locally, nationally and internationally.

As a senior member of the University, you will advance the University’s profile in world-class research, enterprise and teaching excellence in an increasingly competitive environment both nationally and internationally.  Heads of School are academic leaders in their disciplines and work with their Head of College and other members of the College Leadership Team to deliver University strategic objectives. Headship offers the opportunity to play a transformative role in the future direction of your discipline and the school, college and university as well as furthering your leadership skills.

Working closely with the PVC and Head of College for Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, you will represent and promote the School, College and University to enable the right environment for us to be at the forefront of global leading research and innovative enterprise whilst attracting students and providing them with an excellent student experience.

Applications are invited for appointment to commence as soon as possible. The appointment as Head of School will be made for an initial four-year term, which can be extended with mutual agreement, however appointment to the University will be on an open ended basis.

Perrett Laver will be conducting initial interviews with longlisted candidates from week commencing 23rd March 2020. Formal interviews with the University will be taking place on 11th May.

Informal enquiries regarding this opportunity are welcome, and should be made to Professor Henrietta O’Connor, PVC and Head of College for Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities on hso1@leicester.ac.uk or 0116 252 5952.
