Harper Adams University is the leading UK Higher Education (HE) institution focused on the land-based and food supply-chain sectors with an important national role in these subject areas.

Situated on a single campus in rural and scenic Shropshire, the University, and its surrounding area, provide an excellent working and living environment for staff and students alike, yet the University campus is only one hour from the UK’s second city of Birmingham. Around 3,000 HE students attend the University, primarily on sandwich courses, which include a year-long industrial placement. Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are offered. The University also welcomes individuals who wish to undertake CPD or similar professional training to support their careers in the agri-food chain and rural industries.

The Agricultural Engineering Precision Innovation Centre (Agri-EPI Centre), the Midlands Hub of which is based at Harper Adams, is one of four Agri-Tech centres established by the UK government. Agri-EPI Centre focuses on the delivery of research, development, demonstration and training on precision agriculture and engineering for the livestock, arable, horticulture and aquaculture sectors.

The University and the Agri-EPI Centre seek to make a senior appointment to develop a programme of research and teaching in the area of Agricultural Technologies (Agri-Tech), precision farming and Agri-Robotics. The aim of this position, which will span both organisations, would be to work with industry and global academics to develop concepts and new technologies suitable for 21st Century agriculture and horticulture. Both the University and Agri-EPI Centre have close connections with the farming sector and many other businesses, large and small, across the agri-food chain.

Successful candidates will be responsible for the development of a research and knowledge exchange programme in any area of Agri-Tech/precision farming/Agri-Robotics. This will be achieved by securing research income, supervision of research students and through collaboration with the community at Harper Adams University, Agri-EPI Centre, other HEIs and appropriate external organisations.
