Yale-NUS College is seeking an exceptional academic leader to assume the role of Dean of Faculty. The Dean of Faculty is a vital member of the Yale-NUS College administration and is directly responsible for developing faculty as teachers and scholars and for overseeing the College’s innovative curriculum. As the leader overseeing faculty development and curriculum quality, the Dean of Faculty will have significant input to, and influence over, the future direction of the College.

Yale-NUS College is a liberal arts and sciences college of about 1,000 students, with over 100 full-time faculty. The College is established as a collaboration between the National University of Singapore and Yale University. Yale-NUS students are intellectually elite, with an acceptance rate of <7%, and extremely international, representing 71 countries. The Common Curriculum is an essential part of academic life at Yale-NUS; courses are created to be multi-disciplinary and to drive critical, creative and active thinking. About the role

Yale-NUS College seeks to appoint an academic with a distinguished record of intellectual and administrative leadership, a deep understanding of liberal education, and the enthusiasm to be part of an innovative higher education venture. Candidates will need to have the experience and credibility to help guide faculty across a broad range of disciplines within the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President (Academic Affairs), the Dean of Faculty’s specific duties will include:

  • Leading the faculty in the Divisions of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, including:
    • Recruiting and retaining excellent faculty;
    • Supporting and developing faculty as teachers, researchers, and leaders;
    • Overseeing the tenure and promotion processes; and
    • Consolidating and developing a succession plan for the academic leaders and staff reporting to the Dean.
  • Articulating the College’s curricular vision, including within the Common Curriculum, and guiding continuing review and innovation in all areas of the curriculum;
  • Advancing research in the College; and
  • Providing strategic leadership in achieving the College’s unique mission, serving as the interface between administration and faculty.
