World Resources Institute: Appointment of Global Director of Governance, Poverty and Inequality

The stakes could not be higher in the coming decade. Not only must we recover from the COVID-19 health pandemic and ensuing economic crisis, we must achieve the vision set out by the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

We must build back better by empowering people and strengthening governments and institutions to create a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future. WRI’s work to strengthen governance and address poverty and inequality is at the heart of our programmatic work.

We are seeking an exceptional leader with deep expertise to shape our governance work across our global network. You will bring in-depth knowledge of governance principles and a demonstrable track record in reducing poverty and improving human well-being. You will provide strategic direction and guide innovative research at the nexus of governance, sustainability, poverty and social inclusion; secure funds to advance programmatic initiatives; and develop partnerships and collaborative opportunities both within WRI and externally.

Nowhere will this be more important than Africa. We believe it is possible for Africa to chart a better path forward for all through interwoven efforts to address human development, environment and governance. While we undoubtedly face daunting challenges, there may be an unprecedented opportunity — a once in a lifetime chance to remake the social contract and create a better future.

World Resources Institute (WRI) is a global research organization whose mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. Our work spans more than 50 countries, with offices in Africa, Brazil, China, Europe, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States. Our more than 1,000 experts and staff turn big ideas into action.

The ideal location for this position will be in Africa, either in our office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, or Nairobi, Kenya. Consideration will also be given to locating the position in our office in New Delhi, India, or in Europe, either in the Hague or in London. Compensation for this role is competitive.
