The Faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Twente is currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in the area of Data Analytics for Robotics Control.

The Departments

The Faculty of Engineering Technology has very strong research lines in robotics and control. These are mainly housed within the Department of Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces and Systems (MS3) and the Department of Biomechanical Engineering.

The MS3 Department is specialized in smart manufacturing, industrial robotics, precision engineering and control, as well as AI-driven industry applications. The Department of Biomechanical Engineering is specialized in the application area of Biomedical Technology, developing instruments and methodologies that support daily life functioning of individuals. Both departments have access to excellent infrastructure, such as the DesignLab, the Rapid Prototyping Lab and several research and construction labs.

The Challenge

You will contribute to existing research lines, which range from advice to actual prototyping. Your specific contribution will be to the automatic analysis and interpretation of the continuous flow of data from sensory information systems to control robots in complex environments, and to develop such systems. As an Assistant Professor, you will be expected to initiate and acquire funding for new research activities and to actively look for (international) partners to build new research consortia.

You will also contribute to the educational programmes of both Departments, at both Bachelor and Master level (these programmes include Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Industrial Design Engineering.) and the supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students for their assignments.

Your Profile

You have:

  • a PhD in technical sciences;
  • a strong interest in operating at the crossroads of different disciplines;
  • a good knowledge of and experience in data analytics and an affinity with mechanics or robotic systems;
  • a clear motivation to work in the manufacturing and biomedical fields;
  • a passion for or the ambition to become a creative teacher;
  • strong communication skills in English.
