Join us in tackling one of the most pressing issues of our time
We are World Animal Protection. We’ve moved the world to protect animals for more than 50 years. We work for a world where animals live free from cruelty and suffering; we influence decision makers to put animals on the global agenda; we help the world see how important animals are to all of us; and we inspire people to change animals’ lives for the better. We believe change for animals changes our world - for the better.
For many years we have been a catalyst - our passionate teams inspiring and mobilising people, governments, communities and non-governmental organisations to protect animals across the world. We have made real advances in our work, but there is much more to do.
Awareness of the importance of animal welfare is growing and the interconnection with other global issues better understood but animal protection still needs to be universally acknowledged as a global priority that can change the world, and animals continue to face unprecedented threats. Whether it’s the billions of animals that suffer unspeakable cruelty in industrialised food production systems, or wild animals reduced to commodities for human exploitation. Animal suffering is not inevitable. If we help people understand how their actions affect animals and change their behaviour accordingly, the lives of billions of animals will be improved, and a better world created for everyone.
We are recruiting a non-executive chair of our international board, to lead the organisation during an exciting period of change, having developed our new Beyond 2020 Strategy. We continue to deliver against our current 2020 strategy and our focus is on delivering real and lasting change, not only for animals but also for the people who depend on them. This means we need to engage at the top tables in both governments and big businesses around the world.
We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Chair; someone with excellent business acumen, an understanding of complex, international operational structures; together with the energy, passion and inspiration to lead the charity’s vision as the organisation takes forward an ambitious strategy to increase our impact on sustainable animal welfare practices globally.
This is a significant opportunity for a person who has the strategic focus, governance understanding, leadership experience, emotional intelligence and time to support and develop a high-performing board and to ensure that it provides the right blend of support and challenge to the Chief Executive and Executive Team. Perhaps most importantly, you will bring a deep and demonstrable commitment to animal welfare, as well as an appreciation for how our work links to other causes such as the environment, sustainability and climate change.
Please quote reference 4751 to apply and download further information on the required qualifications, skills and experience for this exciting opportunity. The closing date for applications is 9am GMT on Monday 17th August.
The position of Chair is voluntary but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment for this role is approximately two to three days per month. World Animal Protection is headquartered in London.
