The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. The Institute’s mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer, and their scientists and clinicians work every day to make real impact on cancer patients’ lives.
The ICR is now seeking to appoint an Entrepreneur in Residence to support the continuing development of an entrepreneurial culture within the Institute. A newly created role, the appointee will provide mentorship, advice and encouragement to ICR staff to engage in entrepreneurial activities and collaborative projects with industry. Tasks and responsibilities will be agreed on appointment in accordance with the skills, experience and interests of the appointee, but could include: facilitated sessions with senior management to discuss direction, approach and potential outcomes; working with the Enterprise Unit to review incentives to engage in entrepreneurial activities; promoting the benefits and opportunities offered by increased commercial activity to ICR staff; mentoring of potential entrepreneurs at the Institute to develop new business concepts and discuss potential for spin out and licensing; assisting staff with business models, business plans and marketing plans; signposting external opportunities; and attracting and working with investors looking for opportunities in the life/bio-science sectors to showcase ICR opportunities.
The successful candidate will be an established and experienced entrepreneur with a track record of establishing and growing new business ventures in the life sciences or biotechnology space. Experience of establishing or leading a university spin-out company is highly desirable.
The closing date for applications is midnight (BST) on Tuesday 25th August. Final interviews will take place in September 2020.
