Join Frontline AIDS in creating a future free from AIDS for everyone, everywhere
Around the world, millions of people are denied HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care simply because of who they are and where they live. Together with partners on the frontline, we work to break down the social, political and legal barriers that marginalised people face, and innovate to create a future free from AIDS.
We are currently seeking a new Chair and up to three Trustees to lead the organisation during an exciting period of change and development. As a Trustee you will contribute to the development of Frontline AIDS, by helping to shape the organisational strategy and monitor progress, and by ensuring that the charity pursues its mission and objectives while sustaining its financial stability.
The Chair will provide leadership to the Board and ensure it has agreed priorities, appropriate structures and processes and a productive culture; and that Trustees and senior staff are able to govern well and add value to the organisation. You will also support, and, where appropriate, constructively challenge the Executive Director and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Senior Management Team to achieve agreed objectives with due consideration to cost-effectiveness and impact. You will act as ambassador and the public face of the organisation in partnership with the Executive Director.
We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Chair with an understanding of complex, international operational structures, together with the energy, passion and inspiration to lead the organisation’s vision as it takes forward an ambitious strategy. This is a significant opportunity for a person who has the strategic focus, governance understanding, leadership experience, emotional intelligence and time.
Applicants must demonstrate previous leadership experience gained in the public, private or charitable sectors and an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Training in UK Charity law will be provided. An appreciation and understanding of good governance and the role of the Board is essential, including an understanding and commitment to the values of accountability, probity and openness.
We have a diverse and international Board. Due to current and planned retirements we are currently seeking Trustees with experience living or working in Africa, South and South-East Asia, the USA and a major European donor country. We are also particularly interested in candidates with lived experience of HIV, and/or of the marginalised communities that Frontline AIDS works with. All candidates will bring an understanding and appreciation of international development issues - policy, influencing, evaluation and capacity-building, ideally including on HIV, health and human rights - as well as respect for the rights of people living with HIV.
To apply or obtain further information on the required qualifications, skills and experience for this exciting opportunity please download further details below. Please quote reference 4885 for Chair and 4886 for Trustees. The closing date for applications is 9am GMT on Monday 14th December.
The positions of Chair and Trustee are voluntary but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Applicants for the position of Chair should allow at least two days per month for the fulfilment of their responsibilities; applicants for the Trustee role should allow at least one day per month. Frontline AIDS is headquartered in Brighton, UK.
