BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity. We know that children who read are happier, healthier, more empathetic, and more creative. They also do better at school. Our aim at BookTrust is getting every child reading – regularly and by choice. With the long-term impact of the pandemic on children’s lives, and with an ever-widening gap for the most disadvantaged children, our work has never been more important.
We deliver our mission through evidence-based interventions that reach over 3 million children and families each year from 0-13 with a strong focus on the early years. We work with a network of skilled delivery partners; with every local authority across England and Wales, health visitors, schools, libraries, social workers and early years workers; an incredible and increasingly diverse community of children’s authors and illustrators; and with committed and expert support from publishers. With a new strategy in place, we intend to further build our work in supporting children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds in reading.
We are now seeking several new Trustees to join a strong Board and contribute to the strategic development and further success of BookTrust. It is an exciting time to join our organisation as we move forward on our ‘good to excellent’ journey. The successful candidates will be passionate about BookTrust’s mission and will bring experience of organisational change to support and guide us through this critical period.
We are particularly interested to engage with individuals with experience in the following areas: finance, digital, marketing, behaviour change or social innovation, early years (families and children aged 0-5), organisational development, and arts and culture. We are committed to enhancing the diversity of our Board, particularly in terms of the representation of individuals from Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse backgrounds and in ensuring BookTrust’s national reach is underpinned with appropriate regional representation. Prior experience as a non-executive is welcome but not essential.
