The University of Queensland (UQ) has commenced a comprehensive global search for an inspirational Chief Operating Officer to lead the University’s extensive corporate services portfolio through the next chapter of UQ’s ongoing development.
Established 110 years ago and consistently ranked in the world’s top 50 and Australia’s top three Universities, UQ is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions, playing a critical part in shaping Australia’s future and contributing to the global exchange of knowledge through the pursuit of excellence. Our thriving global community is comprised of more than 264,000 graduates and Alumni; 7,000 full-time equivalent academic and professional staff members; and around 54,000 current students. With a commitment to forging partnerships across sectors and national boundaries, we have a distinguished history of global contributions to research and innovation as well as in developing outstanding and inspiring graduates.
This is an opportunity for an outstanding, experienced executive leader to help shape the University’s future and ensure our ongoing success. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and President, the COO will work collaboratively with other members of the University’s Senior Executive Team to shape UQ’s vision, enact our values, and deliver strategic objectives.
Building on a track record of leading corporate services within large and complex organisations, our new Chief Operating Officer must be an agile, values-driven and innovative leader with a strong track record of delivering outcomes within challenging, rapidly changing organisational contexts. We are looking for a candidate with the skills, reputation and experience to further develop our world-class corporate functions and facilitate strong collaboration and partnerships within and external to the University. This role is pivotal to maintaining the University’s current standing as a world leading institution and a catalyst for national and state economic and social development. The COO must also be a role model for the values of the University, mentor aspiring leaders and commit to building a culture of safety and inclusion for staff, students and other members of the UQ community.
