Pro Vice-Chancellor: Research, Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise (6650)

University of the Arts London (UAL) is a world-leading creative university for teaching and research in the fields of art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts. We have recently been ranked number 2 in the world for Art and Design in the QS Rankings. It offers a learning environment in which originality is recognised, difference is respected, and excellence is pursued, and a unique range of courses which nurture creative potential from across the world.

UAL is made up of six renowned colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts. It has developed three innovative interdisciplinary institutes working across the University: UAL Creative Computing Institute, UAL Social Design Institute, and UAL Decolonising Arts Institute. James Purnell has recently been appointed as our new President and Vice-Chancellor.

UAL thrives because the world needs creativity. In a volatile era, we aim to find new ways to demonstrate the value of creative disciplines in our response to major forces such as the climate emergency, pandemics, decolonisation and rising inequalities. A top 30 UK university for research and knowledge exchange, top three for student and graduate start-ups, leading on public engagement and CPD, with 90,000 learners outside of UAL. We use our knowledge, creativity and skills to work with partners, clients and communities to create positive impact.

We are now seeking to appoint to a new senior position: Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research, Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise. A member of the University Executive Board, this role will develop a broad and ambitious academic vision for research, knowledge exchange and enterprise, driving new activity, income streams, developing new partnerships in support of the UK’s industrial strategy as well as global economic and social renewal.

We seek an outstanding individual to take our research, knowledge exchange and enterprise to the next level, enhancing our internal culture and forging multilateral, external relationships to drive impact. You will have an appreciation for our academic strengths; you will have the vision and skills to harness our expertise to other disciplines, creating interdisciplinary collaborations in order to tackle global challenges. You will share our values and will possess exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, representing the University with a wide range of stakeholders. Like us, you believe that equality, diversity and inclusion are integral to thriving organisations and you will share our commitment to creating a University where we can all be ourselves and reach our full potential. You will demonstrate exemplary judgement and commercial insight, bringing a strong sense of integrity as well as energy and innovation.
