We wish to recruit a Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) to provide inspiring leadership that sustains and further expands the grant-funded work, commercial partnerships, teaching and training of this well-established biomedical research institute.

The IMS is the largest research institute at the University of Aberdeen, encompassing 375 researchers and support staff. These comprise 70 principal investigators, 55 post-doctoral scientists and academics, 64 technicians and 120 PhD students. Over the last 5 years IMS staff received external funding to the value of £69 million and in the last 12 months published 317 peer-reviewed papers.

We wish to make a substantive Chair appointment with an initial 5 year period, as Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences. The successful candidate should be a leading researcher in a field that complements research in the Institute and the School. They should be an experienced senior manager with a track record of leadership, human resources, financial accountability and promoting a strong research culture.  We are looking for an inspiring and credible leader who has made an impact in research and related academic activities with the experience to manage a research institute and ensure its staff and students flourish and the ambition to further develop income generating activities.

Salary and package will be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
