National Tutoring Foundation
Appointment of inaugural Chief Executive Officer
The National Tutoring Foundation (NTF) is a new independent non-profit organisation established by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). Its mission is to advance education through improving access to tutoring and academic mentoring to enhance life opportunities and address low educational attainment of disadvantaged children and young people. Chaired by Christine Gilbert, former Ofsted Chief Inspector, the Foundation is bidding to continue the leadership of the National Tutoring Programme which aims to support schools in providing a sustained response to the coronavirus pandemic and a longer-term contribution to closing the educational attainment gap. The NTF will continue to draw from and contribute to the evidence base for high quality tutoring to widen the direct impact of its work.
The National Tutoring Programme was created in 2020 by a collaboration of non-profit organisations and works in partnership with the Department for Education. The programme includes two strands: Tuition Partners, which has been initially run by the EEF, and Academic Mentors, run by Teach First, as part of a broader coronavirus educational catch up contribution.
The Trustees of the National Tutoring Foundation now seek to identify an exceptional individual to be the inaugural Chief Executive Officer, if its bid is successful. Building on an existing platform, the new CEO will provide clear, strategic leadership in a changing external environment, ensuring NTF is positioned as a significant, expert voice integral to the national education debate and delivering on its mission to support disadvantaged children throughout the pandemic and beyond. It will focus on driving value to those who need it most, targeting schoolchildren eligible for pupil premium and reaching ambitious targets for pupil engagement.
The successful candidate will be familiar with the educational context in which NTF operates, combining a proven track record of successful strategic leadership with first class influencing and advocacy skills and the capacity to motivate and inspire a developing team. They should possess the commercial acumen to cultivate sustainable new income streams in support of the organisation’s charitable purpose. An energetic and creative leader, the new Chief Executive will resonate strongly with the ethos and mission of NTF as an independent, non-political organisation.
The NTF is committed to creating a diverse environment and ensuring that all qualified applicants receive equal consideration for employment.
The deadline for applications is midday (BST) on Sunday 25th April 2021.
Salary: Commensurate with the seniority of the role.
To note: Final interviews in May will only go ahead if the NTF’s bid is successful.
