De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally minded and culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good. It strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment that champions difference and celebrates success. Awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, the University is a vibrant, multicultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation that was named the first-ever University of the Year for Social Inclusion by The Times Good University Guide. DMU is home to more than 25,000 students and 2,700 staff.

With the arrival of our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Katie Normington, we have embarked on our “Shape Our Future” consultation, which will in turn shape a long-term strategic plan, and so create the identity of DMU in five, 10, and 50 years’ time. We are asking ourselves some fundamental but hugely important and far-reaching questions at DMU, including: what will be the education of the future that we want to provide? How will it be distinctive; relate to the City and the future world of work; and be inspiring and – reflecting on the ambitions of our founders – ‘elevating’?

We are looking for a new Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education, who will be joining DMU at an excellent time as we progress the new strategy.  We would expect the successful candidate to develop a new education strategy, reflecting the University mission and goals; one which is ambitious and forward-thinking, but is grounded in the values that are important to us, those of equality of opportunity and inclusion, and of creativity and being courageous!

We believe this makes DMU a hugely stimulating environment in which to work, think and lead. The successful candidate for this role will provide proactive leadership for the development and delivery of the teaching and learning portfolio across our university; be committed to collaboration and consultation; work to transform teaching practices across the institution and inspire a culture of innovation and focused excellence in curriculum design and delivery. In doing so, they will play a critical role in ensuring we deliver an outstanding academic experience and grow our regional, national and global reputation.
