The Academy of Tourism

As one of the oldest of the five academies, the Academy of Tourism operates in a fast-growing economic sector and one of the world’s largest industries. Tourism is still considered to contribute greatly to people’s overall quality of life and at the same time, the continuous growth of tourism is not at all obvious. Faced by major global challenges such as its environmental effects and the social impacts of tourism on vulnerable destinations the tourism sector calls for a lot of research and innovation. Moreover, the results of digitization cause disruptive and significant market change for companies and present challenges of an ethical and consumer privacy-related nature. The Academy of Tourism aims to contribute to the understanding of these kinds of impacts of tourism and to support society and industry in determining strategies to manage these impacts. The Academy has an international character and hosts about 1800 bachelor and master students and 150 staff members. Strong partnerships with large corporate firms like Tui, Disney and Booking have been developed to focus increasingly on the innovation and tech-savviness of the industry.

The successful candidate will drive and actively seek opportunities for joint impact-driven initiatives with national and international organisations in the private and public sector relevant to a sustainable and future-oriented tourism sector. In collaboration with other academies within BUas, the Director together with the management team will further develop and implement the Academy plan as part of the wider BUas strategic plan. Moreover, the Director will act as a sparring partner to the Executive Board and contribute to the strategic vision and direction of BUas at large.
