The Faculty has ten Schools and Institutes and our activity spans more than 15 sites in metropolitan Melbourne and rural and regional locations, including our health service precincts embedding us within our strong network of health service partners. Four of the Faculty’s largest schools are located within hospital precincts at Alfred Health, Eastern Health and Monash Health.

Our connectedness to our precinct partners means research discoveries can be translated into real-life therapies and devices faster and more effectively across our ‘bedside to bench to bedside’ model of translation of research. Together with our health service partners, we are involved in almost a quarter of Australia’s clinical trial activity.

Our more than 1780 staff, 1450 PhD students and 2100 adjunct staff in the Faculty lead nationally in research funding awards from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)  long-standing collaborations with government partners, local and multinational industries, and research centres nationally and internationally.

The Faculty received over $300m in research income in 2020, leading the country in competitive grants for health and medicine.  We are home to numerous health and medical institutes including the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases, the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, Centre to Impact Antimicrobial Resistance and the Victorian Heart Institute connected to the new Victorian Heart Hospital. Additionally, we enjoy strong research collaborations, as well as a long history of industry partnerships and international partnerships across Monash’s global footprint.
