UCL Vice-President (Advancement)

UCL – London’s Global University

UCL is a diverse community with the freedom to challenge and think differently. With over 12,500 staff and more than 41,500 students from 150 countries, we pursue academic excellence, break boundaries and make a positive impact on real world problems. We champion innovation, creativity and cross-disciplinary working in our teaching and research and we are consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in the world. From the start, we opened higher education to students from a wide range of backgrounds and have changed the way we create and share knowledge. The courageous attitude and disruptive spirit of our founders is still alive today.

Our new President & Provost Dr Michael Spence joined UCL in 2021. As he builds UCL’s senior leadership team, we now seek to appoint three positions: Vice-Provost (Education & Student Experience), Vice-President (Strategy & Planning) and Vice-President (Advancement). This new team will deliver a unified strategy for UCL, through collaboration built on trust, openness, collaboration and commitment.

Building on the completion of It’s All Academic, the Campaign for UCL which raised £624 million and inspired over 263,000 volunteering hours, we have ambitions for significant future philanthropy and alumni engagement. The Vice-President (Advancement) will work on a long-term, strategically-focused, donor-centric sustainable advancement programme. The Vice-President (Advancement) will lead a high-performing development and alumni team and will contribute to the wider university leadership.

A strategic and collaborative approach is vital to UCL’s sector-leading advancement function, and the Vice-President (Advancement) will develop strong and productive relationships within UCL and externally with a worldwide community of donors, alumni, volunteers, supporters and partners. Successful candidates will bring experience of leading a significant global fundraising and engagement campaign. They should be highly strategic, entrepreneurial and creative, with a flair for engaging a broad range of stakeholders in conversations around our world-leading and highly impactful academic agenda.

UCL is an outstanding place to work. Our people are our greatest asset and in return we provide an empowering, values-based environment. We foster difference, mutual respect and collaboration, and actively encourage applications that will bring diverse experiences to the leadership of UCL.

Applications should consist of a full CV detailing academic and professional qualifications, full employment history, latest remuneration and relevant achievements and should be accompanied by a covering letter describing briefly their suitability for this role, why the appointment is of interest, and what they believe they can bring to the role.

For informal enquiries about the role, please contact Ilona Motyer on ilona.motyer@perrettlaver.com.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 1st August 2021.
