Praxis is an award-winning charity that has been supporting migrant communities and creating systemic change for nearly 40 years from its base in East London. Our work puts us at the centre of the struggle for human rights in the face of racism and xenophobia as we work with people who are marginalised or mistreated because of their immigration status. Our vision is that people who have migrated to the UK will live safely, free from poverty, discrimination, and exclusion, and be treated with compassion and respect.

In anticipation of the retirement of our current Chair in November 2021, we're looking for a new Chair aligned to our vision to lead a dynamic, collegiate Board of Trustees, help implement our ambitious new strategy and support a growing and influential organisation. A commitment to social justice and fair treatment of people wherever they come from and whatever their immigration status is essential.

We are seeking a Chair who will represent the organisation, provide strategic and collaborative leadership to the Board of Trustees and work in partnership with the Chief Executive to ensure the highest standards of governance. You will use your personal skills, experience, knowledge and attributes to contribute to the delivery of our strategy and to help the Board make sound decisions.

This is a great opportunity for the right person to get involved with a dynamic, high-profile organisation, to be an ambassador for our work and our campaigns, and to be part of a passionate team delivering real impact and lasting change for thousands of individuals and contributing to critical conversations about migration, race and justice.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing your motivation, how you fulfil the role description and your alignment to Praxis’ work and values to quoting reference 5262.

We also ask that you specifically include any direct experience or family history of immigration, migration or refugee experiences in your cover letter.

The deadline for applications is 9am BST Monday 20th September 2021.

We encourage and welcome applications from all, regardless of background and are particularly interested to hear from those currently under-represented in the humanitarian sector including people with lived experience of immigration and migration, women in senior leadership positions, people from minoritised communities, people with a disability and LGBTQI+ people. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, ethnicity, gender, sex, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, or disability.
